A seminar was planned at Santorini, Greece during the month of June 2015. Being a frequent traveler, I wanted to experience the Santorini lifestyle for a change and found this beautiful 300 year old restored guest house on airbnb.
The listing was available during my stay so I decided to contact the host, Lianne Given, who replied shortly after with the approved reservation.
I was so excited to live in that 300 year old restored guest house and sleep in the oven. Yeah you read it right! The oven has been restored and used as a bedroom. The house featured in “You Live in What?” an american TV program on HGTV network. This program features visionaries who have transformed run-down commercial spaces into unique homes.
The house has been restored after the earthquake that hit Santorini, and Lianne sure did a great job there.
The house included a kitchenette, a living room with two sofas that can be used as beds, and a sleeping room that used to be the town’s oven where they baked Santorini’s specialty black bread 300 years ago. It simply was a perfect fit for me.
The best of all, was that large terrace with an amazing view and a calm neighborhood, away from the tourists, especially in a busy season like this one. Check out the photos below.
I loved every detail of the house, Lianne was also an amazing friend, she was helpful and a great guide. She recommended places to visit on the island. I will be writing about them in upcoming posts.
The house is not exactly in the center of Fira but rather in the heart of the island Santorini. Its location is perfect if you plan to visit all the island. You don’t want to spend all your time at Fira, you will be missing a lot of fun around the island. The house’s location is on the way to the oldest church on the island, and many wineries. It is close to the airport and Kamari beach. Fira, the center was a 10 min drive from the house, Oia a 20 min drive, the red beach a 20 min drive, Kamari beach a 5 min drive, and the airport a 5 min drive.
Lianne was also kind enough to show me her beautiful 300 year old large villa right next door, which she also restored. It is available for rent and is the perfect house for large families, especially since rentals at Santorini are rather small.
If you are planning a vacation at Santorini, I highly recommend you stay there, away from the tourists who will not allow you to enjoy the caldera during the day, since houses in Santorini are very close to each other.
If you want to book it, feel free to book it airbnb here.
