What a great move. The new look is eye-catching, easily browsable, pins are better organized, it is easier to find pins of the same interest, the layout is great.
But one has to admit, the focus was on keeping the user on Pinterest’s website. Sharing the pins on other social media channels isn’t as easy as it was before. Previously while pinning the user could select the channel (Facebook, Twitter) and hit “pin”. The pin would automatically appear on the boards and on the selected channels.
Now things are much more difficult and require double the work. Pinning and sharing at the same time was eliminated. In case the user decided to share the pin with other channels, he/she has to click on the pin and then share on the top right of the screen, and complete the process. Then, if the user wants to pin the same post into his boards, he/she has to go the normal pinning process.
On the other hand, when sharing a pin on Facebook, the pin appears in a smaller frame, unlike the ones before the new look.
Was this a strategic move by Pinterest?
