It is no secret, Facebook changes the privacy settings very frequently. And let’s admit it, we rarely read those settings. However, this blog post is dedicated to all those who are investing time and money on their Facebook Page and would like their page to show even if users are not logged in to Facebook. Yes believe it, some don’t have Facebook accounts and others might be logged out!

PS: This post only applies to Pages and not personal profiles.

Why would your Facebook page be invisible if you are logged out? Well here are some reasons:

  • Your page settings are not updated. I will explain below how to check and adjust the settings.
  • Your page is not legally visible to all users. In this case there isn’t much you can do. If you run a page that has an age restriction, like in the case of alcohol, your page will not be visible to users if they are not logged in. Why? Simply because Facebook cannot check if they are of legal age to view the page. Unfortunately, you can’t do anything in this case, as changing the age restriction can affect your page status and Facebook can remove your page, according to its rules and regulations.

If you do not have a page restriction, below are the steps that you can follow to make sure your page is visible when users are not logged in to Facebook and how to adjust them.

Step 1: Check the Visibility of Your Facebook Page

Check if your page is visible to users who are not logged in.

Log out of your Facebook profile and use the link of your page to access the page. The link to your page will be the following https://www.facebook.com/mariafrangiehblog. It can also have numbers in case you did not claim a username for your page.

If your page shows, then great you don’t have to do anything.

In case your page does not show, then you can follow the below steps and adjust your settings.

5- Check the “Country Restrictions”, “Age Restrictions”, “Page Moderation” and Profanity Filter”.

“Country Restrictions” You can choose to show your Page only to people in certain countries, or to hide it from people in others. If no countries are listed, your Page will be visible to everyone.

“Age Restriction” When you select an age restriction for your Page, people younger than this won’t be able to see your Page or its content. If you have a restriction your page will not be public. The user must be logged in, in order to view your page.  If you page is for a bar is alcohol related you must choose “alcohol restriction” which means your page will not be public. If you don’t go with it’s proper restriction you put your page and your business at risk as you are violating Facebook guidelines. Bummer, I know!

“Page Moderation” To cut down on inappropriate content, you can add keywords you’d like to block from appearing on your Page. If one of these keywords is used in a post or comment, it will automatically be marked as spam. A Page admin can approve or delete the content. The limit is 10,000 characters.

“Profanity Filter” You can choose whether to block profanity from your Page, and to what degree. Facebook determines what to block by using the most commonly reported words and phrases marked offensive by the community. So better turn it off if you do not want to black anything.

And here you go, you are all set.
