Business Growth Advice You See Online

Don't take them all

by Dr. Maria Frangieh

So you see and read and hear lots of advice about how to be successful at your business or the steps to become successful or a secret recipe to business growth.

PAUSE

Have you ever wondered why there are so many? Simply because there is no one single secret recipe for success and it is not that straight forward of a process.

What Are They Not Telling You?

It works, for sure, exactly the way they describe it, but only for them . And it might not work for you. Every business is unique, the owner, the idea behind the business, the employees, the processes, the geographical location, the structure, the experience of the team, the context, the customers, the industry and much more. And every business will react differently to these suggestions or plans. The consequences will also be different.

So?

Don’t take it literally.

Listen carefully, read carefully and then take all this advice and adapt them to your business and to your lifestyle. Be selective. You might take one idea, or two. But not necessarily all. Create your own recipe for success. Only you know your business better than others.  Only you know the capabilities of your business and your team and yourself. And most importantly, stay positive and believe in yourself and your team. It is a long road, full of challenges, but that is ok, learn as you move along and keep going.

How Did It Work For Me?

I am someone who has a lot to do during the day. Working remotely every since I started working was very challenging, especially when the majority considered me as a freelancer or just someone trying to get some jobs, but nothing serious. My team works remotely as well. I travel very frequently and it was hard to have some time for myself and finish my tasks. I used to answer all the messages that I receive immediately including emails. Which left me with a lot of unfinished tasks. I used to do them during the night or the next day.

Serving our clients in a timely matter is very crucial, however, clients requests aren’t always urgent. That is a very important tip I learned. Some requests can be given more time than others and it will also help the clients identify which tasks are urgent and which are not. It will also allow us more time to assess the situation and take better decisions. So I decided to dedicate a specific time during the day where I don’t look at my emails or phone and just do my tasks. No distractions. I check my phone or email from time to time for urgent tasks but I seldom find ones. This allowed me to have a more balanced life and be more productive.

You might see some advices online about waking up at 4:30 am. This can be an alternative. If you prefer to sleep at 4:30 am like I do, give my way a try. Bottom line. Adapt the advice based on your needs and the way you do your business.

Now, how about you try it yourself and share your experience with us. Which advice did you use and how did it work for you?
